BuddyPress joins Automattic

Matt announced that Automattic is now backing BuddyPress, and have hired its creator, Andy Peatling. BuddyPress is a WordPress MU project that aims to create a social network platform, and having it under Automattic’s wings ensures it’s development of course.

Automattic to offer hosted forums?

Matt Mullenweg, Automattic head honcho and creator of WordPress, mentioned a new forum software in an article over at the Houston Chronicle TechBlog (via Blogging Pro). The new piece of software is called TalkPress (for now at least, see this bbPress forum thread), and will co-exist with bbPress.

Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, founded on the success of blogging platform WordPress (which BloggerTalks incidentally uses) by Matt Mullenweg, have raised another $29.5m in funding, with The New York Times opening its wallet.
